Places to eat.
The first thing to say is that we are thoroughly spoilt for amazing places to eat, both locally and a little further away! Don’t worry if you are a celiac, vegan or carnivore, everyone is well and truly catered for here! This list is added to frequently as we find more local gems or our guests let us know of other places they have found!
We recommend the following places that are open for business and following Covid-19 secure guidelines. All establishments will be asking you to sign in using the NHS Track and Trace app or ask you for your contact details, if you don’t have the app, for Track and Trace should you enter.
A coffee shop with a lively, fun loving owner! Lottie will look after you and make sure you have bacon rolls, coffee and pancakes and homemade cakes to make it through the day. Lottie even holds special events and Friday Fish and Chips, for which booking is essential. A great view across the River Dart and over to Dartmouth.

Amazing extraordinary stone baked pizzas and other wonderful delights. Eat in or takeaway. Definitely reserve a table as this place is popular! Views overlooking the River Dart and over to Dartmouth. Gluten free bases on request.
Kingswear Coffee Company – By the lower ferry slip road, Kingswear
Grab a coffee and cake before either getting on the lower ferry to explore Dartmouth or the Dartmouth Steam Railway.
Platform 1 – Dartmouth, by the passenger ferry entrance.
Champagne bar and restaurant with an array of food from brunch to dinner. Seafood to steak there is something for everyone.

Café, Bar and Restaurant. A perfect place for a quick pit stop whilst exploring Dartmouth or for Sunday lunch, the Sunday Roasts are amazing! Booking is essential.
Café Alf Resco – Lower Street, Dartmouth
A fusion of fresh food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere. Great breakfasts and freshly made lunches.

Currently this Michelin starred restaurant offers alfresco dining on the Embankment overlooking the River Dart. What better way to enjoy an evening with a great view, fresh fish and a glass of wine. This must be booked and has proven to be very popular.

Both restaurants offer fresh catch of the day served simply with salad or unlimited chips. All batter etc is Gluten free! Both are Child and dog friendly and the Brixham restaurant is situated above the fish market, overlooking the harbour where you can watch the fishermen land their catch. Did someone say Doughnuts??!!! Well look no further, but be quick! Ash and his team produce doughnuts to lust over, as well as selling a delicious array of food every day of the week. The perfect excuse for a holiday treat early on in the day!

Fish and chips, mussels and crab. A good selection to order and take out to enjoy on the harbour edge or beach.
Breakwater Bistro – At the Breakwater, Brixham
Another great relaxed place to eat and enjoy the harbour sights. Also sit on the beach outside and have a paddle or walk along the Breakwater.
The Guardhouse Café, Brixham – This is a café situated at Berry Head, and a great stopping point when walking. Child and dog friendly. They also hold special pre bookable evening set meals, which can be lovely having dinner watching the sun set.

Situated on the inner harbour. On The Rocks serves BBQ style food inc great steaks and seafood and delicious Sunday Roasts. Booking a table is recommended.
Liberty Cocktail bar, Brixham – Cocktails! Do we need to say anymore. Great for an aperitif or post dinner drinkies.
The River Shack – The Quay, Stoke Gabriel
In prime location by the waterside in the quiet hamlet of Stoke Gabriel. Grab a coffee and cake then sit down next to the river and enjoy a bit of crabbing!
Further Away but worth the drive:
The Winking Prawn, Salcombe – Prawns, crab, popping shrimp baguettes, cakes, coffee, afternoon tea. A great place to visit in a quiet cove and with a secluded beach. Child and dog friendly with inside and outside seating. It will get busy during holidays. Lunch menu starts at 1130 so get there before the crowds!

A gem! Book, book, book! A small “shack” highly regarded and mentioned in the Independent as “a must”. On sunnier days there is first come first served seating outside, but only a small number of tables inside.
Fika Coffee House, Kingsbridge – For guests who venture further afield to Kingsbridge, along the stunningly beautiful coast road south of Dartmouth, past Blackpool and Slapton Sands, we can recommend an excellent cafe. This is a lovely, small, informal Scandinavian inspired coffee house. It serves great coffee and tea, cakes and simple open sandwiches, light lunches etc at reasonable prices. It’s in a great location near the tourist information office & car park at the head of the estuary where Kingsbridge town begins. Closed Sundays and Mondays

For that special lunch or dinner we highly recommend this bistro style high quality fish and shellfish restaurant, located near the harbour in Torquay, with ample local parking in the car park opposite the restaurant. Family owned (husband and wife team). Bistro restaurant downstairs and wine bar upstairs with great views over Torbay. Good a la carte menu with lots of choice plus plenty of daily specials.
