Wet Weather Days!
Although we are lucky to enjoy warm, sunny days sometimes the rain will fall, like everywhere else in the UK! But not to worry, there is still plenty to do on wet weather days. We have listed a few suggestions, to help you decide what to do.
First and foremost there is no need to go anywhere! Get your wet weather gear on first thing and go for a walk around the farm, jump in muddy puddles and enjoy the woods, mud kitchen and stream. If you have forgotten wellies for the little ones, we do have spares so please ask. Then head to the pool for a warm swim before lighting the log burner and enjoying a day of playing games and drinking hot chocolate! Relax… you are on holiday!
Here is our list of things to get up to in the local area when the rain is falling;
The Dartmouth Steam Railway, Paignton to Kingswear
We suggest you drive to Paignton and catch the steam train to Kingswear, through the countryside and past hidden coves! When you arrive in Kingswear and if it isn’t too wet, jump on the ferry to Dartmouth and enjoy the historic town before heading back on the train to Paignton.
Kents Caverns, Paignton
Book onto a tour and step back into a hidden history. In a surprising location you find the homes of ancient humans and explore the labyrinth of hidden caves containing stalagmites and stalactites. Half a day trip suitable for the whole family.
China Blue, Totnes
Enjoy a couple of hours or so costuming your chosen pottery. Paints and aprons are supplied! They will then fire them and post them to you if necessary. A great wet weather activity and something to treasure and remember your holiday by. There is also a stunning gift shop to browse around and a cafe should you get a little peckish!
House of Marbles, Bovey Tracey
Enjoy a couple of hours learning about the history of the glass works and watching enormous marble runs in action. What is even better is this is completely FREE!! Although you will probably want to catch a coffee and cake in the café and they also have a lovely gift shop!
One of the South Wests’ leading indoor climbing facility. Pay as you climb with free parking. Absailing and caving systems, there is something for every level of climber from beginner to advanced. They run 1 hours courses if you have not climbed before.
The National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth
Home of the Ocean Conservation Trust, this is a must see and perfect for half a day. Be warned it is the place to go on a rainy day, so get there early! The UK’s largest aquarium with stunning viewing and hands on activities for children (and big kids!). There are very informative talks that take place throughout the day. Booking is essential.
Plymouths new cultural destination. Museum, gallery and historical archives that means there is always something for you to discover. A good place to visit for two or three hours and it is FREE!
Woodlands Theme Park Dartmouth
If you have little ones that need to run free for a time then dare we mention softplay! We have our 5 year and old and under area but if the older ones need to exhausting then head to Woodlands Theme park. They have a MASSIVE indoor area for all ages. Height restrictions apply in some areas and Covid-19 restrictions are in place at the current time, so do check their website for more updates. Chairs are available for the adults as well as catering facilities so adults can “relax” in the hope that the children will go to bed early! If the skies clear then the park has many other areas outside to explore including a farm, crazy golf, water slides and a falconry centre.
